JointBrex Side Effects: What to Know and When to Stop
Side effects reported for JointBrex ingredients are mostly mild: stomach upset, nausea or diarrhea.
The capsules contain crustacean shellfish. Glucosamine, turmeric, bromelain and quercetin can matter with warfarin, and glucosamine may raise blood sugar and eye pressure. Stop taking it if you notice hives, swelling, unusual bleeding or yellow skin.
Does JointBrex have side effects?
Mostly mild, with a few important exceptions.
JointBrex can cause side effects, but those reported for its ingredients are mostly mild. Stomach upset, nausea and loose stools top the list. Large glucosamine trials found adverse events were mild and similar to placebo (Clegg et al., 2006 (GAIT, NEJM)).
A few risks are more serious for certain people. The sales page says "no significant side effects have been reported". We think you deserve the full list, so here it is, ingredient by ingredient.

JointBrex stomach side effects: upset, nausea and diarrhea
Usually mild. Water and a steady routine help.
Stomach complaints are the most common side effect. Several ingredients have been linked to them in some people.
Stomach side effects by ingredient
| Ingredient | Reported stomach effects | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Glucosamine | Uncommon and mild: stomach upset, heartburn, loose stools | LiverTox, Glucosamine, 2018 |
| Turmeric | Nausea, reflux, stomach upset, diarrhea or constipation | NCCIH, Turmeric, 2025 |
| Bromelain | Stomach upset and diarrhea are the most common | NCCIH, Bromelain, 2024 |
| Turmeric (EMA) | Dry mouth, wind and stomach irritation | EMA herbal monograph, Curcuma longa, 2018 |
Take the capsules before a meal with a full glass of water, as the label says. If the upset lasts more than a few days, stop and ask a pharmacist. See how to take JointBrex for more routine tips.
JointBrex and shellfish allergy
Very low risk, but not zero.

The label says: "Contains: Crustacean shellfish (crayfish)." Glucosamine comes from the shell and should hold very little allergy-causing protein. Small studies found no reactions in people with crustacean allergy, yet reactions have been reported (Food Allergy Canada, Ask the allergist, 2023).
MSK says people with shellfish allergy should talk with their provider first (MSK About Herbs, Glucosamine, 2026). If you have ever had a serious reaction to shrimp, crab or lobster, do not try JointBrex without your allergist. Read our post on glucosamine and shellfish allergy.

JointBrex and bleeding risk with blood thinners
Four ingredients, one call to your prescriber.
This is the most important drug issue. Four ingredients in JointBrex have been linked to bleeding concerns with warfarin and similar medicines.
Australia's TGA logged 12 reports, 10 with INR rises, some up to 12. The WHO database held 22 cases, with 4 needing longer hospital care or vitamin K (HSA Singapore, Warfarin-glucosamine, 2009).
A patient stable on warfarin saw INR climb above 10 within weeks of starting a turmeric product. Medsafe advises avoiding turmeric products with anticoagulants, anti-platelets, NSAIDs or SSRIs (Medsafe NZ, Turmeric and warfarin, 2018).
MSK says not to take bromelain with warfarin or other blood thinners, based on lab data showing more bruising and bleeding (MSK About Herbs, Bromelain, 2023).
Quercetin raised INR in one case report that settled after it was stopped (MSKCC About Herbs: Quercetin, 2023). Boswellia may increase bleeding risk with these drugs (MSKCC About Herbs: Boswellia, 2026).
If you take a blood thinner, talk to your prescriber before you start, and expect closer INR checks. More in our post on joint supplements and blood thinners.
Can JointBrex raise blood sugar or eye pressure?
Two glucosamine effects worth checking.
It may, in some people. Both effects come from glucosamine, the largest ingredient at 1,000 mg.
Blood sugar: glucosamine could worsen insulin resistance and affect glucose readings, so people with poorly controlled diabetes should be monitored (MSK About Herbs, Glucosamine, 2026). NCCIH also notes it may raise blood sugar in some people (NCCIH, Glucosamine and Chondroitin, 2023). Check your levels more often in the first weeks.
Eye pressure: glucosamine sulfate raised eye pressure in one trial (MSK About Herbs, Glucosamine, 2026). If you have glaucoma, ask your eye doctor first and keep your regular pressure checks.
Caution 3: blood sugar
Diabetes? Test more often at first and tell your doctor.
Caution 4: eye pressure
Glaucoma? Ask your eye doctor before starting.
Is JointBrex safe for your liver?
Rare, mostly with strong curcumin products.

For most people, liver problems are unlikely, but they are worth knowing about. Turmeric is a well-documented cause of liver injury, usually showing 1 to 4 months after starting. Most cases involved high-dose or bioavailability-boosted curcumin, often with black pepper extract (LiverTox, Turmeric, 2025).
JointBrex uses 100 mg of plain turmeric root, a much smaller amount. Glucosamine is only a possible, very rare cause (LiverTox, Glucosamine, 2018). Still, people with liver disease, bile duct problems or gallstones should ask a doctor first (EMA herbal monograph, Curcuma longa, 2018). More on our turmeric page.
JointBrex, bromelain allergy and other medicines
Pineapple allergy, antibiotics and asthma medicine.

Bromelain comes from pineapple, and allergic reactions to it have been reported (MSK About Herbs, Bromelain, 2023). If you react to pineapple, skip JointBrex or ask your allergist. MSK also advises against bromelain with tetracycline antibiotics.
Other medicines: people who take asthma medicine should talk to a provider before boswellia (NCCIH Boswellia, 2025). Curcumin and quercetin can change how the liver handles some drugs (VKM (Norway) quercetin & rutin risk assessment). Bring your medicine list to a pharmacist. JointBrex in pregnancy, nursing and under-18s
Three groups the label rules out.
Do not take JointBrex if you are pregnant, nursing or under 18. The label says so, and safety data are lacking for several ingredients (NCCIH, Turmeric, 2025).

JointBrex side effects questions
Does JointBrex have side effects?
It can. The side effects reported for its ingredients are mostly mild, such as stomach upset, nausea or diarrhea. The bigger risks are for people with a shellfish allergy or who take blood thinners.
What are the side effects of glucosamine?
Side effects are uncommon and usually mild, like stomach upset, heartburn or loose stools. Glucosamine may also raise blood sugar in some people, can affect warfarin, and raised eye pressure in one trial.
Can glucosamine cause diarrhea or constipation?
Yes, in some people, though it is uncommon. Taking the capsules with a full glass of water before a meal, as the label says, may help. Stop and ask a pharmacist if it continues.
Can JointBrex cause an allergic reaction?
It can in rare cases. The capsules contain crustacean shellfish (crayfish), and bromelain comes from pineapple. Hives, face swelling or trouble breathing need urgent help.
Is glucosamine safe for your liver?
Liver injury from glucosamine is very rare, if it happens at all. Turmeric is a better-documented cause, mostly with high-dose curcumin products. People with liver disease should ask a doctor first.
Does glucosamine raise blood sugar?
It may in some people, and it could worsen insulin resistance. If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar more often for the first few weeks and tell your doctor.
Can you take glucosamine if you are on blood thinners?
Only after talking with your prescriber. Regulators logged higher INR readings in people on warfarin who took glucosamine, some above 10. Turmeric, bromelain and quercetin add to the concern.
Does glucosamine raise eye pressure?
It did in one trial of glucosamine sulfate. If you have glaucoma or high eye pressure, ask your eye doctor first and keep your regular checks.
Is JointBrex safe to take every day?
The label directs two capsules every day, with no stated time limit. Large glucosamine studies found no major safety problems, but the cautions on this page still apply.
When should I stop taking JointBrex?
Stop at once if you get hives, swelling or trouble breathing, unusual bleeding or bruising, or yellow skin or eyes. Stop and ask a pharmacist if stomach upset does not settle.
